Mission Statement:

In support of school-based music class enrollment. Campus Concerts presents interactive chamber music performances that introduce students to the joy of collaborative music making. Four, five, seven or nine musicians ( depending on the request made by each individual school), who specialize in teaching as well as in performance, excite, challenge and involve students in a upbeat format that stresses the joy of music appreciation as well as performance. Presentations last from 30 to 50 minutes, depending upon the age of the
audience.

Collaboration:

All of Campus Concerts’ performers are highly interactive; the Introduction to the Orchestra and Woodwind Quartet presentations are especially so. Students are drawn into the performance experience with familiar music clips ( from Disney movies, cartoons, ect..) that
introduce more substantial classical repertoire. Throughout the presentations, audience members answer questions, offer suggestions and assist with the performance with a
variety of activities. At the close of each performance, six or seven students are chosen from the audience to play percussion instruments for the final musical selection.

Arts Integration:

Although the performances are primarily configured with music curriculum in mind, there are also references to specific principles ( specifically sound production) and history. With some
advanced notice and adequate funding, it would be very easy to integrate visual arts and/or dance. As an example, in the past, we have presented “ Peter and the Wolf” with on the
spot illustrations by a visual artist who used an overhead projector.
K-12 Arts Articulation: We welcome the opportunity to present sequential programming in the following order;
“Peter and the Wolf” for grades 4 - 6. Woodwind Quartet or Quintet and master classes for secondary schools.
Differentiated Arts Experiences/Special Accommodations.
Campus Concerts has a history of reaching out to audiences with special needs, as music is so accessible for all ages and abilities. We have delighted audiences as young as two and
as old as seventy; at schools specializing in educating the highly gifted and for those who cater to the needs of the developmentally challenged. One of our most enjoyable experienced was our performance for ARC ( the Association of Retarded Citizens).

Ease of Scheduling:

All Campus Concerts musicians are available for services during the school day. All scheduling arrangements can be made through Pat Maki, Director.

Programs:

Peter & The Wolf - Recommended for Grades K-5

Music and spoken narrative bring this classic fairy tale to life. Young listeners are encouraged to identify which characters are "onstage" based on the instruments used to signal their arrival. The music ensemble includes flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and French horn. The program can be combined with a more sophisticated program for upper grades 4 through 8.

Introduction to the Orchestra - Grades 3-5 & 6-8

This program demonstrates piccolo, alto and bass flutes, oboe and English horn, clarinet, saxophone or E flat clarinet, bassoon, trumpet and piccolo trumpet, horn and trombone. Fimiliar tunes used during the demonstration include themes from Peter and the Wolf," Snake Charmer," "Yankee Doodle", "The Jungle Book," William Tell Overture and "Star Wars."

Woodwind Quartet - Grades 3-5 & 6-8

Our program takes the listeners through the development of music from the Baroque era to the early twentieth century. We combine historical and musical information to accomplish a combination of instrumental selections, demonstrations and discussions. Students participate throughout, and, as a finale we invite six students to join us as a percussion section and one as
a conductor. We demonstrate the flute, piccolo, alto and/or bass flute, oboe, English horn, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone and/or E-flat clarinet
